Peava

We've reached Peava on Nggatokai Island at the southeastern end of Marovo Lagoon. The swell finally eased, enabling us to motor around the south side of Vanguna and Nggatokai Islands. We're anchored in the lagoon off the village.
We've made a couple of dives on the wall outside the lagoon and we've also made contact with Lisa of Solomon Dive Adventures. Ginger knows Lisa from when she operated Dive Makai in Hawaii. Yesterday, we went with Lisa to Kicha Island, around 5 miles away, and made a couple of excellent dives.
We plan to stay here a couple of weeks.

Nona Lagoon

We've reached the edge of Marova Lagoon; one of the key places we wanted to see in the Solomons. It's claimed to be one of the largest atolls in the world. Actually, we're in a section called Nono Lagoon and we may not visit the rest of it until after we complete our trip to Peava.
We're anchored off an island called Vangunu waiting for the weather to ease (again). It's nice here but there's a large swell coming from the southeast and the next legs of this trip are in the open. We're too far from the edge of the reef for good diving, and we can't really snorkel because we've already seen a crocodile swimming by!

"Yes, but they don't bite people!"

We're at the island of Rendova, anchored in Tungi Bay. When we arrived, as I prepared to snorkel and check the anchor, I asked a local whether they had crocodiles here. He said, "Well, yes, but they don't bite people!"
I can confirm the first point because we saw a croc this morning swimming around the bay, less than 100 yards from the boat! I don't plan to test the second point. I hope the anchor comes up without requiring another dive under the boat.
We've been diving here, outside the bay on the fringing reef. We're assuming that the crocs stay near the mangroves and don't go out that far. Exciting times!
